Nicholas Kalogirou
Nicholas Kalogirou is an engineer by day and pianist by night. He's been involved with piano for 25 years across a variety of styles. Nick has a Royal Conservatory of Music diploma in Piano Performance and has won several regional competitions for classical piano. He also was the musical director for St. Matthew's Anglican church for 11 years and performed with a jazz quintet around Edmonton for 5 years. Improvisation and composition are also close to Nick's heart, filling out his side career as a pianist. Nick's journey with Denice Bennett's voice studio began in 2005 accompanying a single student. Within a few years Nick began to play for all of Denice's studio, a collaboration he cherishes to this day.
Jim Findlay
Jim has been involved in music all of his adult life. He took many years of classical piano study in his youth. and string bass in junior high with Mary Cockell. He studied at Grant MacEwan University. Jim has studied with several very talented guitar teachers and performers; among them Lyall Steele, (Classical guitar) Brett Liebham, (jazz performance and theory) Jamie Philp (performance and theory) and Ernst Birse.(classical guitar performance and theory). Jim leads The Jim Findlay Trio, guitar violin and bass. The trio has been together about 18 years and is very active in the Edmonton music scene. They have recorded several CDs and a DVD of Jim's compositions. Jim works regularly with Denice Bennett performing arias, sacred, art song and spirituals. He is taking vocal instruction with her. Jim plays Flamenco guitar and has two groups; Spiral Flamenco and Flamenco Del Corazon. He works with violinist Mingmei Xu and clarinetist Don Ross and guitarist Andrea Lastiwka as The Aquarius Guitar Duo. As a composer he has written jazz, classical, a string quartet, musical theater and flamenco. Jim is a music teacher. He is a member of the Edmonton Classical Guitar society and the Edmonton Flamenco Society.
